How do I Search for Images?

Sources of photographs and images:

AccuNet/Ap Multimedia Archive is an electronic library containing the Associated Press' current photos and a selection of pictures from their 50 million image print and negative library.

Check the copyright statement from AccuNet/Ap Multimedia Archive

Digital Media Center: Art and Architecture Images provides over 63,000 images including selected images from commonly used art history textbooks, and images from more than 25 museums in North America.

Search tips: You can search by keyword, creator, creator nationality, title, date, object type, or museum.

Each image has a copyright statement on Web page.

Web Searching for Images:

Hotbot has a nice image search feature. If you choose "Advanced Search," you may specify that a Web page must include an image or other format.

AltaVista also has a nice image search feature. If you choose "Images" from the search menu, it leads you to a search screen with other image parameters. You may also choose "Advanced Image Search".

Important:  It is vital to give credit where it is due. Be sure to check the copyright status of any image you download from a database or the Internet. If you are not sure about plagiarism then please see How do I know what plagiarism is?.

If you need assistance, ask at the Reference Desk or call 229-4270 or use the E-mail reference service.
