About Database of African American Poetry

Connect to: African-American Poetry

Purpose The Database of African-American Poetry (DAAP) contains the full text of almost 3,000 poems written between 1760 and 1900. Poets included in DAAP are among those listed in Afro-American Poetry and Drama, 1760-1975, by W. P. French et al. Works by such widely known figures as Phillis Wheatley and Paul Laurence Dunbar are included in this database as well as works by lesser-known African-American poets. Researchers can trace the occurrence of a word or a concept across the works of one poet or the entire database.
